Summer days, drifting away…
For some reason, I get “Summer Nights” from Grease stuck in my head more often during these warm months. The last days of the week have been a whirlwind of day trips. I have barely found the time or energy to upload photos, let alone type out a blog post. But those days are also the best days, mostly because the kids are happy and tired! Well with the exception of my son. He suffers from a serious case of ‘fear of missing out’. Cue the eye roll. I’ll talk about that some other time.
Thursday, we took a little trip to Silver Sands with my sister. We had gone the week before with my parents and it had gone well, so I figured why not?? To be perfectly honest, it’s been a while since we’ve gone to the beach. I can only mentally and physically handle so much. When I weighed the options in my head in the past, it was a ‘maybe next year’. Not a great frame of mind. But as these kids get older and they hear more stories about all the great things their classmates did over summer, the mommy-guilt became too real. So I put my own exhaustion aside, and have been taking huge strides to finish out this summer with little activities.

We didn’t stay long, since the day before we were out in the sun and Friday would also be spent in the sun. We use Babyganics, which has been great, but the reapplying gets tedious. My oldest found some really cute seashells. I’m picky and I’m not trying to take home the whole beach. So alot of the trip is me, checking out their treasures to find only the best looking shells and rocks. What will we do with them you ask? Hah only time will tell.

The kids spent some time in the water, fake swimming, because it’s been too long since their last swimming lessons. I don’t think I could ever forget how to swim, but its the ocean and not a swimming pool so I just laugh along with them. We had a nice time, if you pretend they didn’t bug us a thousand times to go back out to the water. They had forgotten their buckets, so that meant that we had to make that up to them. Kids can be so considerate when your in the middle of trying to have a conversation haha.
I can’t say Silver Sands is my favorite beach, but since it’s free I can’t complain. The kids also had a great time. Stay tuned for my part 2 post about our trip to Hammonasset Beach. What beaches do you enjoy? Or if not the beach, where do you find your happy place?? Let me know in the comments!
