With summer vacation almost over and school starting just around the bend here, I’ve rounded up my favorite pieces for the first day of school. It’s taken longer than I had hoped to pull this post together. I had also hoped to once again post Charlotte’s outfit, but it was misrouted in transit so bear with me. When it arrives (god willing) I will update this post but until then, let’s have some fun and do some shopping haha!
Back to School Outfits 2019
I don’t know about you, Dreamies, but I have a few rules with my kids when it comes to clothes. Mostly, treat them like they can’t be replaced, read the labels (if they’re of age to use the machines), and listen to my advice. They can dress as fancy or as comfy as they like, but it can never be slovenly and unkempt. Also, the first day of school, holidays and picture day are my day to dress them – no questions asked. They’re pretty good about it, luckily and I know a lot of other parents don’t have that luxury. Heck, Kylie would never wear what I wanted when she was younger but the last few years she’s actually taken an interest – mom win! Now let’s get down it it, shall we?

Girls First Day of School Outfits
I picked mostly dresses, because I detest trying to put outfits together with skirts. No matter how hard I try, they never seem just right to me. I buy them mostly so Char can use her own fashion sense and wear them as she pleases. I included a romper in the lineup because my oldest suddenly has a deep obsession with them, though she’s never worn one. I picked up a really cute one from Abercrombie kids, but it needs a little taking in. There will be pictures on Instagram, don’t worry!
I really think these are the cutest offerings that Old Navy and Gap had right now. If you get their emails then you know they’ve got some pretty decent sales going on right now!
Boys First Day of School Outfits
When it comes to boys, it can really be quite easy. I like to find a nice light colored button down or polo and just match it with some form of khaki short. Lucas usually already has these, so he makes my clothes shopping a breeze! I know he’d rather be walking into school in one of his newly acquired soccer jerseys, but he has all year for that.
I don’t especially like polo shirts, I’m more of a button down shirt kinda girl, but these in particular caught my interest. They are moisture wicking and if you son is anything like mine, well he’s constantly running around and sweating. In my opinion, this shirt is ideal for any boy-mom, and I’m kind of bummed I didn’t find it before today!
Shoes to Match!
No outfit is complete with the perfect shoes! You could go elsewhere and pair them with some cute Toms or ballet flats from anywhere else, but I really adore the ones here. I’m dying to get the bow boots for Char, and I have expressed my love for those cat faced shoes on more then one blog post. I’m still patiently waiting for the rose gold ones to come back…
I really like these slip-on shoes for boys. They will match just about anything and clean up a summer or spring outfit nicely. Plus they’re a lot easier to clean and more comfortable then any dress shoe, and this isn’t an occasion for that level of fancy!
Girls Pajamas for the Night Before
So, I’ve had my eye on these pajamas since they started stocking them. I’ve always loved the super cute pajamas from Gap and Old Navy. They’re sure cute and fit well, even when I’ve sized up. But these are something else. They’re reminiscent of soft and frilly pajamas, just the right amount of fancy and I am in LOVE! The price point was a little too much for me, especially with three kids seemingly always outgrowing their clothes at the same time. However, now the old styles are ON SALE!! I heard the angels sing! So I thought, how nice would it be to have some brand new, pretty pajamas the night before school starts?? I would’ve loved to pick some for boys but what I found was your run of the mill pajama pants. Too warm for right now, and honestly my kid is sleeping in basketball shorts at this point!
Charlotte’s Back to School Outfit
I’m hoping Charlotte’s order will get here sooner than later so I can update this post accordingly, but in the meantime I will include my choices here without the child wearing them haha.
So, what do you guys think? What will your kiddos be wearing on the first day of school? Do you keep it casual or do you dress them up for the occasion? Leave me a message in the comments, Facebook or Instagram, I’d love to hear from you!
